Words such as muslin and damask (damas/Damask work) come from the places where they are made, namely Mosul and Damascus.The use of curtains was common in ancient Egypt. During the ancient Greek and Roman periods, linen fabrics with prints were used in the decoration of temples and interiors. According to historical sources, window curtains were first used by the Latins. However, throughout this period, including the Middle Ages, windows were designed in very small sizes and were usually closed with wooden shutters. The word voile used today comes from the curtain system called "velum" used by the Roman people who came to watch shows in large ceremony areas to protect themselves from the sun. Starting from the 6th century, silk production in Byzantium and its provinces reached quite large levels. Byzantine silk textiles were woven and used on looms in Istanbul and Corinth. During this period, fabrics that were extremely colorful and rich in patterns and composition were produced. During this process, the foundations of the roller blinds we use today were laid.In our country, during the Ottoman period, candlestick fabrics were brought from Italy and France and were used in palaces. In traditional Anatolian houses, the windows are small and buldan cloth, denizli cloth and kanefçe embroidered calicoes are used. During the Republic period, Bursa, Denizli, Uşak and Adana developed in fabric and weaving. All kinds of fabric produced in our country and all kinds of textile and home textile needs of our people were met in Sümer Bank factories established by Atatürk. Today, our country is a pioneer in the curtain industry.
